While groups for parents of children with type 1 diabetes in Gloucestershire and people with type 2 diabetes exist, there is nothing specifically for people with type 1 diabetes. Type 1 Gloucestershire is here to change that!
Elizabeth and John are husband and wife, and both live with type 1 diabetes. John, who was diagnosed at age 23, saw the need to form a community of people living with diabetes in London. He started a type 1 meet-up group there in 2011, and about a year later, he met Elizabeth who had come from the UK to study for her Master's degree.
John and Elizbaeth understand how important it is for peole with type 1 diabetes to meet, share, vent frustrations, and just spend some time around people who 'get it'.
It's such a nice thing to not have to explain what your blood glucose meter, injections or insuiln pump are. When you're with other type 1s you never have to answer sometimes frustrating questions about the myths associated with diabetes.
The hope is to continue to grow the group so that in person meetings can be held. The group will potentially carry out campaigning, educational or fundraising activities.
We can't wait to meet you!
